Orlando, Fla., March 2015 — The Zebra Foundation for Youth recently received $20,000 from Walt Disney World Resort as part of the company’s 2015 Disney Grants program. The Zebra Foundation will use the funding to support programming at Zebra Coalition that fosters positive self-esteem, respect for others, academic success and is focused on reducing high-risk behavior for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and all youth (LGBT+).

Funding from Walt Disney World will support Zebra Coalition’s inclusive programming that provides hands-on and interactive learning and activities that allow youth to explore, express and experience art, film, life skills, technology, and other methods to assist in their development.
“Support from Walt Disney Word Resort allows the Zebra Coalition to provide hands on activities and workshops to youth in our community that supports self-development and self-improvement while creatively exploring and understanding others”, said Dexter Foxworth, Zebra Coalition Director.
During a March 30 ceremony at the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts, the Zebra Foundation and fellow Central Florida nonprofits and organizations were recognized with Disney Grants support and special Mousecar awards. In all, 102 groups received $4.5 million in Disney Grants, which will help them positively impact more than 250,000 Central Florida children and their families.

Through the support provided by this signature giving program, Disney Grants will help local organizations fulfill their missions, which range from building children’s character to encouraging creativity to promoting economic development throughout Orange, Osceola, Seminole, Lake and Polk counties.

The Zebra Foundation for Youth helps create and sustain programs that directly support the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and all youth (LGBT+) community, primarily through the Zebra Coalition.
The Zebra Coalition fosters hope, dignity and self-respect in lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and all youth (LGBT+) and provides them an opportunity to grow up in a safe, healthy and supportive environment.
The Zebra Coalition is a network of Central Florida social service providers, government agencies, schools, and colleges and universities that provide a full continuum of services to at-risk LGBT+ youth. The Coalition assists young people facing homelessness; bullying; physical, sexual and drug abuse; and isolation from their families with individualized programs to guide them to recovery and stability.
