Development Consultant

  • Overview

The Development Consultant functions as a short-term strategic partner to the Operations Director, supporting Zebra Youth’s mission by strengthening the organization’s individual giving program and leading a Summer Pride Fundraising Campaign. The Development Consultant works to ensure their duties align with the values and mission of Zebra Youth. This position rebuilds donor relationships that have gone dormant, executes a focused fundraising campaign tied to Pride Month, maintains the Bloomerang donor database, and leaves behind an operational development function that can be handed off to a full-time Development Director. The purpose of the Development Consultant position is to generate new, unrestricted revenue that diversifies Zebra Youth’s funding base and reduces the organization’s reliance on federal grants.

    • Designs, launches, and manages a three-month summer fundraising campaign, including theme development, messaging, channel strategy, and timeline.
    • Cultivates and stewards individual donors through direct outreach, appeals, and in-person or virtual meetings.
    • Identifies, qualifies, and moves major-gift prospects through a cultivation pipeline in partnership with the Executive Director.
    • Administers the organization’s donor management system, including constituent record hygiene, duplicate resolution, segmentation, gift entry, and acknowledgment letters.
    • Drafts and deploys donor-facing communications, including appeal letters, campaign emails, case-for-support materials, and social media content, in alignment with Zebra Youth brand standards.
    • Supports the donor cultivation components of Zebra Youth events hosted during the contract term, including a summer Open House.
    • Scopes and recommends a concept for a future signature annual fundraising event.
    • Provides regular progress updates to the Executive Director and the Board Development Committee.
    • Maintains a transition document capturing donor relationships, open opportunities, and recommended next steps.
    • Presents a campaign close-out report to the Board of Directors at the conclusion of the contract.
    • Coordinates with the Executive Director, Operations Director, and grants consultant to ensure fundraising efforts complement existing funding streams.
    • Demonstrates an understanding of the funding landscape for LGBTQ+ youth-serving organizations in Florida.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • A minimum of five (5) years of nonprofit fundraising experience is required, including direct ownership of individual giving campaigns that raised $50,000 or more.
    • Demonstrated proficiency with Bloomerang or a comparable donor CRM (Raiser’s Edge, Salesforce NPSP, DonorPerfect, Little Green Light), including segmentation, query building, and report generation without staff support.
    • Documented track record of moving donors through a cultivation pipeline from acquisition to major-gift status.
    • Demonstrated experience, capability, and a strong commitment to working with LGBTQ+ youth-serving organizations or similar mission-driven nonprofits.
    • Fluency with email marketing platforms, social media fundraising best practices, and online giving platforms.
    • Strong written communication skills, including appeal writing, case-for-support development, and donor correspondence.
    • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, manage multiple workstreams, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
    • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
    • Basic to intermediate computer, data entry, and database skills.
    • Efficient in Microsoft Office.
